Never tell the learner the answer\n\nIt’s tempting to step in when your child gets stuck. But even a good explanation can do the thinking for them. Try asking, “What have you tried?” or “What could you try next?” Give them a chance to work it out.\n\n2. Honor their thinking\n\nA wrong answer can reveal something your child understood correctly. Ask how they got there before correcting them. You’ll learn more about what they’re missing, and they’ll see that their reasoning matters.\n\n3. Don’t say “no worries” when they get something wrong\n\nWe want to reassure our kids, but brushing off a mistake can dismiss the effort and frustration behind it. Acknowledge that the problem is hard, then help them find a next step they can take themselves.\n\n4. Confirm progress, don’t explain it\n\nWhen your child discovers something, resist finishing the thought for them. Ask, “What does that tell you?” Let them put the insight into their own words and decide what to do next.\n\nI’ll add one more:\n\n5. Encourage your kids to express their creativity with AI\n\nMy 8-year-old can now build games in ChatGPT by herself. We also create funny videos and songs in Gemini as a family activity. Next, I’m going to show her how to create Blender models.
