every few years there's a short lived effort to make miami tech a thing by rabidly insisting that it is a thing. it never gets taken seriously and then it just dies it's actually very easy to fix it just takes doing some counter intuitive / temporarily painful things stop copying modern day sf sf has already won. they can put on the lowest effort event and get 200 people to show up. given the talent density it's possible 10-20 of them are working on something very impactful. there's more people who hate my product in sf than people who even know that it exists in miami when you are starting from 0 copying this does not work, they are doing end game moves. miami is in the beginning of the game and needs to operate entirely differently. if sf is doing it, miami should not build the foundation first every event ends up being 98% early career people / people adjacent to tech / people trying to break in. they are told attending these events will help their careers so they show up since miami is at the beginning of the game it absolutely cannot serve these people yet. you need a foundation of people who are much more established first these people occasionally show up to events and have a pretty meh experience and give up on engaging. without getting them onboard literally nothing else can follow expel grifters miami has a culture of grift. so many people rich here off dropping the right course on the right hyped topic at the right time.
they're pretty obvious to identify, they always seem to be doing a bunch of things on whatever the trendy topic is. except they never actually do anything impactful do not do ANYTHING with them - anyone who's legit can smell them immediately and they poison the well acknowledge we suck it is true you have to fake it till you make it. but the trick is it can't obviously seem fake if we were actually something we wouldn't need to try and tell people about it all the time. every time we do we just remind them that we haven't made it yet we need to stop trying to get sf to like us and just do our own thing it needs to be invisible. the work and content coming out need to speak for itself. people need to naturally feel like things are happening here they're missing out on without anyone spelling it out small is fine there are very very legit founders here. there's not a lot of them but there's more than enough put out some content with the 2 of them talking to each other in a location that only miami can do. don't say “HEY GUYS LOOK IT'S MIAMI” - just put out the content. do that enough times and people will draw the connection changing perception doesn't happen overnight it needs consistent value and quality delivered over a couple years. but it's simple just need to play the long game
if we can do this consistently people will want to be here. the weather is great, we have some incredibly wonderful neighborhoods to live in, and the taxes are low. that's a gift that we need to stop squandering
