OSS isn't and won't be dead. But AI made things worse. One thing is how easy it became for people to spam PRs and issues. We get that a lot at @documenso. People open issues about legacy stuff that isn't relevant anymore, for example. Or they open a bunch of PRs with bad AI-generated code that they didn't even check. i think oss is dead, most big repositories are using there own software factories to maintain the repo, this is mainly done to stop the damage caused by external contributors, new folks and experienced folks are using coding agents to open any irrelevant issues, trying to game the system just to add some achievement in there resume. This is a big problem which i am facing as a maintainer and i feel people who genuinely want to contribute for the love of game are suffering rn. This problem is something new which no one is talking about. Turns out ai is amplifying people who can larp and it is making good contributors invisible.
