Recently met up w old Uber colleagues. What they told me is inside of Uber, there's been an effort for months to push out long-tenured engineers + managers. HR called a meeting, said "we'd like you to leave, here's a nice package." With this context, sadly, not all surprising:

BREAKING: Uber, $UBER, is laying off 10% of its employees in a massive restructuring effort aimed at reducing costs. The layoffs will impact a total of 3,300 people and will reduce the number of managers in the company by 20%. The move comes as Uber has vowed to commit more than $10 billion to robotaxi partnerships in the coming years.
