Our engineering team managed to migrate from v8 isolates to fully independent MicroVMs, while getting cold starts down in the 9ms range and warm starts 6x faster than before the migration.

Every Netlify Edge Functions deploy now runs in its own Firecracker MicroVM. Two deploys with different code or different environment variables become separate services, and they never share a VM. Even if a compromised deploy escaped the JavaScript runtime, it couldn't reach other customers or the compute layer. v8 isolates never gave us that level of isolation. https://t.co/Xo52WjUbGk
