Devin has been building cloud agents for over 2 years (since March 2024). In hindsight it really is crazy how far ahead of their time they were. Over the past few months (2 years later), everyone seems to be realizing that this is the best, most scalable agentic approach for building software.

I am increasingly annoyed by agents running locally, launching stuff (browser windows, apps etc) while I'm trying to work, interfering with my own desktop This stuff needs to live either in a VM, or probably the cloud. I want to kick it off and not distract me!
