Sriram hits the nail on the head here. We need real independent governance of such an effort should it come to be. The open web benefitted enormously from a model that made clear how governance and funding were distinct, warts and all.

@albrgr thank you but I think one of the issues is we need this to not be funded by any of the sources of funding that already exists in the ecosystem - and I have huge respect for you guys but there's a lot of capital from your world in the mix.
