Comparing Claude Code and Codex for Development Work

i switched from Claude Code to Codex after 6 months. it’s insane how different they are and how Claude Code’s fast speed is an ILLUSION: > codex is like the autistic genius. it gets shit done. it doesn’t talk much, often times it feels dry, but you’re not going on a date with it so it’s ok. > it’s incredibly smarter. practically one-shots everything. > codex takes waaay longer to finish a task but i’m 100% fine with it. i can spend that time working with another agent. > claude code needs too much baby sitting. what codex finishes in one go, CC does in 4 conversions. it’s much faster but i think it’s mostly an illusion of speed since it doesn’t really finish a task but comes back to you doing a sub-task of it. > codex takes more time, but is much more reliable. the time it spends on planning + coding is the time otherwise spent on debugging and redoing the implementation as in Claude Code. > the price for codex is insanely high. i don’t see many people seeing the ROI on spending ~$240 a month on codex. CC is cheaper. there’s definitely not as much difference in quality as there is in price. > for now i’m testing codex, so far i’m really enjoying it. > if you do try codex, make sure you use the $200 version for full experience. it actually is quite different.
