the next email client won't market itself as email. the next calendar won't market itself as a calendar. the next messenger won't ask you to leave the one you have. you don't beat a protocol by building a better client for it. you make the traditional client entirely irrelevant. this is esp true when the thing you're competing with is completely *free*.
