Ten Rules for Building Starter Story Before Acquisition

I want to share my 10 rules for building starter story. Rules I set years before the acquisition: 1. 10X CONTENT. Content MUST be original. For every video we create, we ask "why should this video exist?" if the answer is unclear, bin it. 2. EMPATHIZE with your viewer (or customer). When you create anything, imagine YOU are the person consuming it. Great decision making framework. 3. POSITIVE energy only. Do not put negativity into the world. There are a lot of people dunking on each other on this app for internet points. This childish behavior gets you nowhere in the real world. 4. Seek and welcome feedback. Ask people what they think. And how things could be better. Read all the comments. Take actions accordingly. 5. If you feel uncomfortable, that's when growth is either happening or about to happen. For people reading this, it probably has something to do with getting over your fear of what people will think about you. 6. Integrity. It's hard to come by these days. There is so much fake sh!t here on this app, and everyone with half a brain can smell it. Sometimes people create stuff purely for the purpose of going viral and creating rage. IMO it's a short term hack that destroys the long term value of your business. 7. Get your shit done. Limit meetings. Build an async culture. Set clear KPIs. At Starter Story we had one meeting per week. The rest was execution. 8. STUDY THE GAME. Think about your business constantly. Analyze things in the real world with a lens of your business. See something cool? Try to apply it to your business. Most things don't work, but some change everything. 9. LOOK AT THE DATA. I hate when decisions or discussions are happening without some data to back it up. Data is cheap. 10. ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Mediocrity is everywhere. Success is in the dirty details: pixel perfection. The bug fix at 1AM. The 7th revision of a video. Find enjoyment in building something great.
