Anthropic Acquires Bun: Control Over AI Coding's Foundation
Press Space to continue
Bun getting acquired by Anthropic is bigger than it looks. Bun had huge adoption but zero revenue and limited runway. Meanwhile, Claude Code depends on Bun for its single-file executable and future sandboxed code execution (and the latter part is probably one of the biggest reasons for this acquisition). Anthropic didn’t just buy a JS runtime - they bought stability and the ability to control the foundation their coding agents run on. Both promise: Bun stays MIT-licensed, open source, and focused on high-performance JS tooling with ongoing Node.js compatibility. We'll see if that remains true.
