AI model APIs are following the Uber pricing playbook right now. Subsidize with VC money, keep prices low enough that nobody checks if the cheaper model works just as well, and try to establish a moat before the bill comes due. The only caveat is that many developers who have been forced to try cheaper models due to their own high API bills have found out they work fine for most tasks.
